One-Sixth Land
Sammy Chow, Ceci Yiu
This group of artists is the winner of the open call for proposals at High Island.
High Island is known for its stunning natural landscapes, including the famous hexagonal columns after eruption of supervolcano and the Tin Hau Temple, where fishermen used to pray.
Our artwork celebrates these iconic depictions, geographical features and representative colours to create a unique and beautiful piece.
Portions of the pillars feature ropes that capture the vertical patterns, while others act as mirrors, reflecting the natural view of the sea and the landscape. The artwork offers visitors a sense of the vast beauty of High Island from afar, then allow them to explore it up close.
We named the art piece “One-Sixth Land” to acknowledge that it only captures a tiny speck of the island’s natural beauty. There is a long journey for adventurous visitors to discover the hidden treasures in High Island.
