The story of Yim Tin Tsai, a tranquil 0.31km2 island just twenty minutes away from the Sai Kung Town Centre, began three centuries ago when their ancestors Chan Mang-Tak and his wife moved from Shenzhen and built Yim Tin Tsai village. Housing the Hakkas of the Chan family, the islanders made a living by salt-making and fishing, and numbered over 200 during the most prosperous period.

15 minutes away from Sai Kung Town Centre, the 2500m long and 500m wide Sharp Island was once at the very edge of the caldera of an active supervolcano with a diameter of 18km. The dramatic and dynamic outcrops one could now access at Sharp Island is a product of a more than 140 million-year-long migmatisation of volcanic ash, lapillus and lava.

Kau Sai Chau is the biggest island in Sai Kung and home to the only public golf course in Hong Kong, which came into service in mid-December 1995. Kau Sai Village, at the south end of the island, was once a Hakka settlement. In 1952, the colonial government set up the Port Shelter Firing Range, and most parts of Kau Sai Chau and nearby Jin Island were firing targets. To avoid firing-related accidents and injuries, the Kau Sai Village Hakka residents were relocated to the new Kau Sai San Tsuen in Pak Sha Wan, Sai Kung Peninsula.

High Island, formerly known as Dragon Boat Bay, was named after the long, narrow boats that were once used by local residents for transportation. Another version suggests that in the past, many ships passed through the waters of Leung Sheun Wan, including those transporting food and goods.
