Travelling around High Island
Hiking Route

There are 7 artworks displayed on High Island in the Sai Kung Hoi Arts Festival 2024. This route allows you to visit Pak A, Tung A and Sha Kiu, enjoying the beautiful sea view and learning about the culture and history of each village.

Suggested Route
  1. From Sai Kung Pier to Leung Shuen Wan Pier (around 45 minutes kaito ride)
  2. Visit the artwork “Prismatic Rainbow Mascot” at Tin Hau Temple Plaza (5 minutes)
  3. Visit Tin Hau Temple, and view one of the mural paintings “Divine Revelation” of the artwork “The Chronicles of High Island” next to the temple (20 minutes)
  4. Walk from Tin Hau Temple to Pak A Village (around 25 minutes)
  5. View another mural painting “Springtime Venture” of the artwork “The Chronicles of High Island”, and visit the Hakka village houses along the way (15 minutes)
  6. Visit Pak A Pavilion and enjoy the artwork "One-Sixth Land" on the beach (15 minutes)
  7. Visit the Leung Shuen Wan Public School to view the artwork "Rhythmic LANE" at the basketball court (20 minutes)
  8. Head to Tung A Village, visit the artwork “Dance with the wind at Kwong Wo Yuen” (10 minutes)
  9. Visit the artwork “Rhythm of the Dragon” on Tung A Beach (10 minutes)
  10. Head to Sha Kiu Village, view the last mural painting “Pearl in the Deep Sea” of the artwork “The Chronicles of High Island” (15 minutes)
  11. Visit the artwork "Dear Sea" at Sha Kiu Village Office (10 minutes)
  12. Return to Leung Shuen Wan Pier in front of Tin Hau Temple (15 minutes)
  13. Return to Sai Kung (around 45 minutes kaito ride)

Time required: around 4 – 4.5 hours

Remarks:
-Stairway up/down at part of the road in High Island and the visiting area is large, visitors should wear suitable clothing and bring along sufficient water
– The above is only a suggested route, visitors can adjust the itinerary according to their own ability or needs

Visitors can hike to the villages of High Island, starting from the MacLehose Trail Section 1, pass by the West Dam, and enjoy the breathtaking views of the High Island Reservoir.

Suggested Route
  1. Start from MacLehose Trail Section 1, walk along pavement uphill (40 minutes)
  2. Arrive at Yuen Ng Fan Viewing Point, take a break (15 minutes)
  3. Continue up the ramp to West Dam (15 minutes)
  4. Continue along MacLehose Trail (40 minutes)
  5. Arrive at High Island Viewing Point, walk down the steps to enter Pak A, Tung A and Sha Kiu (30 mins)

Time required: around 3 hours

– This section includes some ramps and stairway up/down, visitors should wear suitable clothing and bring along sufficient water
– The above is only a suggested route, visitors can adjust the itinerary according to their own ability or needs

The kaito services from Sai Kung Town to Kau Sai Village and High Island is operated by Tsui Wah Ferry, which is a licensed regular service approved by the Transport Department. For details, please visit Tsui Wah Ferry website.

To support the operation of the Arts Festival, during the Arts Festival period (i.e. from 13 November 2024 to 12 January 2025), additional services will be offered from Tuesday to Fridays, with extra services on weekends and public holidays. Visitors may go to the Sai Kung Public Pier to queue for boarding the kaito on the day of visit and pay by octopus card or cash (no change). The single trip fare is HKD65, same price for adults and children.

The public kaito services between Sai Kung and Kau Sai Village/High Island offer concessionary transport fares. Elderly and eligible persons with disabilities can travel to Kau Sai Village/High Island at a concessionary fare of HKD2 per trip.

Hong Kong residents aged 60 or above must use a JoyYou Card to benefit from the $2 Scheme. Eligible persons with disabilities must use valid Personalised Octopus with “Persons with Disabilities Status” to enjoy the $2 concessionary fare.
