The ceramists (or called “C-Fu-Jai”) of the St. James’ Creation (SJC) Community Arts Project “MusiCLAY’ will bring ceramic music to the arts festival. They will introduce their pieces, demonstrate how to play ceramic instruments including a unique “Clayto”(ceramic xylophone) they have created, and invite participants to experience them.

Ceramists “C-Fu-Jai” will lead a workshop where participants can paint semi-finished ceramic piece inspired by Sharp Island’s landscapes, landforms and common plants. The glazed ceramics will be fired at SJC and assembled into a ceramic “Clayto” installation and exhibited later. In addition, the “C-Fu-Jai” will demonstrate hand-building with clay. Participants will be able to make their own mini clay figurines to take home as Christmas decorations after they have dried. It promises to be an interactive experience blending art, music and community spirit.

Collaborator’s Introduction:

As a creative hub for people with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder, SJC has been actively involved in the art projects that foster community ties while empowering ceramists “C-Fu-Jai” to create art imagery. All these are funded by the sales of artwork, workshop income, grants and donations.

Established in 1999 under the Rehabilitation Services of St. James’ Settlement, SJC aims to promote and advocate arts development for people in need. In recognition of the efforts of “C-Fu-Jai”, SJC received the Award for Arts Promotion at the 15th Hong Kong Arts Development Awards in 2021.

Furthermore, the team has participated in over 100 local and overseas exhibitions, including the Gyeonggi International Ceramic Biennale 2015 in Korea, and Gift from Land at the Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennale 2018 in Japan.
