Geological and Ecological Route

As time progresses, more and more advanced technology has emerged in human society. Nowadays, while people are enjoying the benefits brought by nature, they also desire to control or master it. However, there are two sides to the same coin. As an invisible agent, nature can provide various resources to human, but its dangers are hidden in the darkness. The diversity of complex landforms, strange beauty of different rocks and delicate ecology that we appreciate are all treasures from nature. We must also acknowledge that natural disasters, such as tsunamis, earthquakes and typhoons, pose major threats to human survival. Perhaps we can have a glimpse of how nature sculpts the environment we see today, and how human adapt to the challenges of nature, from the example of Sharp Island in Hong Kong.

As part of Hong Kong Geopark, Sharp Island is widely acclaimed by visitors for its unique landforms and rocks. While enjoying the island’s spectacular scenery, people seem to ignore the active role of nature in the formation of this unique landscape. On Sharp Island, a seemingly insignificant rock is in fact originated from the immense power of volcanic eruption. The force of nature has shaped Sharp Island for over a hundred million years, which contributes to the well-known geological resources we see today. Join the tour and visit Sharp Island together to experience the wonders brought by the power of nature.

About Guided Tours

The guided tours of Sai Kung Hoi Arts Festival are organised by the curator and “Kaifong Tour” together. Various parties including The Salt & Light Preservation Centre, Hong Kong Architecture Centre and Hong Kong Geopark, also provided assistance during the process of route design.

The guided tours will cover four different themes, to provide a more comprehensive experience for the visitors to explore Yim Tin Tsai and Sharp Island. The tours will focus on interactions and experiences, with an objective to encourage the participants to further explore the fascinating cultures and histories of the isles upon completion of the tours.
