From 10pm to 7am the next day, let’s go stargazing in High Island!
Wishing upon a star makes dreams come true. Winter skies boast the highest number of bright stars, each one dazzling. Amidst the mutual radiance of bright stars, star clusters, and nebulae, the winter night sky appears particularly lively. Participants, guided by professional stargazers, can explore the night sky through specialised telescopes and experience the fascinating ecology of the Geopark. They can even witness a magnificent sunrise from the East Dam.
Route: Start from Sai Kung Pak Tam Chung P.H.A.B. Site, hiking to Man Yee Road via West Dam to Pak A entrance. Walk via Pak A to Tin Hau Temple for a short rest and hike via Pak Lap Village to Man Yee Road. Hike to High Island Reservoir East Dam to see the sunrise. Stargaze instructor and tour guide will introduce astronomical phenomenon and knowledge, ecology, geology and culture along the journey. At the end of the tour, the group will dismiss at East Dam.
Remarks:
– Participants will need to arrange their own transportation to the assemble point Sai Kung Pak Tam Chung P.H.A.B. Site and from the dismissal point at East Dam after the event
– The event involves intensive walking. Participants should consider their physical conditions and abilities before joining
– Participants are required to bring along picnic mats, food and water, mosquito spray, torch, binoculars and wear winter clothing
– Participants are required to download the stargazing software Stellarium on their mobile phones in advance
