Ambassadors Programme

2022 Sai Kung Hoi Arts Festival Ambassadors Programme

Background

The “Sea” may be somewhere you would like to spend your holiday or leisure time on. However, there were people who lived on the isles with a lot of stories related to the sea, which you may want to know more about. Feeling the sea breeze and seeing the ebb and flow come and go could bring you peace of mind. If there is a chance, would you like to spend days on isles and working with us, to further explore the old and the new of Sai Kung Hoi?

Sai Kung Hoi Arts Festival 2022 will be held later. Departing from Sai Kung Hoi, with Yim Tin Tsai as the centre, extending to Sharp Island, we wish that the isles can be the place where people meet, connect, begin and enjoy their journeys of experiencing the power of arts and nature.

We are now recruiting Sai Kung Hoi Arts Festival Ambassadors to be the connectors between the organiser and the visitors, to support the overall operation of the Festival, interact with the visitors, collect funny stories which may contribute to the creation of artwork for next year.

Introduction

The “Sai Kung Hoi Arts Festival Ambassadors Programme” is a one-year pilot programme aiming to recruit energetic adults, who are interested in arts/isles/nature, to join our team to support the smooth running of the Festival. The programme will be held in 3 phases with details as follows:

Phase 1: Workshop and training (around early-mid Oct)

2 Pre-event workshops will be held for the Ambassadors to learn about arts, isles and nature.

1st Session // Programme introduction (*mandatory)
10 Oct (Mon) 19:30-21:00 (Online meeting)

2nd Session // Site Inspection (*must attend one of the sessions)
12 Oct (Wed) 10:00-17:00 @ Sharp Island & Yim Tin Tsai
15 Oct (Sat) 10:00-17:00 @ Sharp Island & Yim Tin Tsai
22 Oct (Sat) 10:00-17:00 @ Sharp Island & Yim Tin Tsai

Phase 2: Practical, experience & stories collection (during Festival period)

During the 2-month Festival period, Ambassadors are required to work with us on the isles to support the smooth operation of the Festival, interact with the visitors and develop deep understanding of the history and culture of the isles. While assisting the visitors on site, the Ambassadors will also need to collect funny stories that they saw in form of a working diary. Ambassadors will learn and practise their observing and recording skills when making the records. The content of the diary may be in form of photos, drawings or texts. These stories may be displayed online or developed into one of the artworks to be exhibited next year and as an important basis of programme planning for next year.

Ambassadors are required to work during the Arts Festival period on a rotation basis and work for at least 2 days/week. The working time is 08:45 – 17:30 and the Ambassadors will be free to choose their available days from Monday to Sunday.

Phase 3: Sharing, discussing and co-creating (post-Arts Festival, may start around early 2023)

Ambassadors will be invited to attend post-Arts Festival sharing sessions and workshops to share their experiences and discuss about the direction of artwork creation and programmes planning for the next Arts Festival. Sharing by artists may be included to broaden the exposure of the participants.

More details about the post-Arts Festival arrangement will be announced in due course.

Why should I be a Sai Kung Hoi Arts Festival Ambassador?

Spending time with the isles and sea seems to be a luxury for people who live in the city. While people are used to rushing from here and there, it will be a good opportunity to slow down on the isle to learn from the ups and downs cycle of the nature, and to leave some space for yourself. As an Ambassador, you will be required to work outdoor during the Festival period, which will be a good opportunity for you to reconnect life and the nature, to find a new direction for living.

Sai Kung Hoi Arts Festival Ambassadors’ main study focus:

1 // What is the relationship between isles and living? What’s my role in between?
2 // What are the needs of the visitors? How can we make the Festival better?
